Your Guide to Spring Maintenance for Your Above-Ground Pool

Hot weather is right around the corner and that means plenty of splashing, swimming, jumping, and diving coming your way! Here’s your guide to spring maintenance for your above-ground pool.

Ready, Get Set, Uncover!

The first thing you’ll need to do is clear your pool cover of debris like leaves, sticks, and standing rainwater. The easiest way to remove water from your pool cover is with a cover pump. With a cover pump, dirty water won’t be able to fall into your pool as you remove the cover. Plus, a cover pump is vital anytime your pool will be covered for a length of time. That way you can prevent water from accumulating, and possibly damaging your pool cover. Need a cover pump? Stop by and we’ll help you pinpoint the best one for your needs.

Inspect your pool cover as you wash it, looking for any holes or tears that need to be mended. Once your cover is off of your pool and cleaned, allow it to dry before folding and storing to prevent mold and mildew.

Keep it Lined Up!

It’s also a good idea to inspect your pool’s liner before you top it up with clean water. Sometimes tree roots can grow in unexpected places and poke holes in the bottom. Try to also look for any uneven spots that may cause problems later. Even if your liner is in good shape, you may still want to update it for aesthetic purposes. Pump it!

Once you’re ready to fill your pool back to the proper level, re-insert any drain plugs and re-attach your filter hoses. Check for any leaks or backwash from your pump and add water till you reach your fill level. Never underestimate the importance of a good pump, and replace it if it’s showing signs of damage or malfunction.

Give it a Test

Your pool should be clear of debris if it was covered properly, but if not, now’s the time to vacuum any dirt or debris. An automatic pool cleaner makes this job a breeze. Once your water is clear, test it for any imbalances and adjust your chemicals accordingly.
