Summer pool parties are known for creating lasting memories. Give your guests a party they won’t soon forget with a creative and memorable theme. Whether you’re hosting a birthday celebration, a bachelorette party, or just a casual get-together with friends, a creative pool party theme can make your event unforgettable.
This summer, let’s skip the classic party themes and start some new group favorites.
1. Ice Cream Party
What better way to stay cool in the summer heat than with an ice cream-themed pool party? Not only can you serve ice cream treats for this theme, but there are plenty of ice cream-themed decorations available to really sweeten the deal.
Pro tip: Find or create some ice cream-related games for times spent lounging by the pool. Also, be on the lookout for ice cream-shaped pool inflatables and toys to encourage pool play.
2. Rubber Duck Party
Another potential pool party theme is a rubber duck party. Rubber ducks can be purchased by the hundreds as a quick way to fill a pool to the brim with a ridiculous amount of ducks. Not only would the sight of a pool covered with ducks be amusing, but it would be fun to jump into as well. There are also duck-themed tableware, decorations, party bags, and more, making this an easy party theme to shop for.
Pro Tip: Play duck races from one end of the pool to the next with each guest picking their favorite. Just be sure to save all of those ducks for a future event.
3. Mac and Cheese Party
Who doesn’t love macaroni and cheese? Kids and adults alike hold this dish near and dear to their hearts, and we think that deserves a pool party. Inflatable macaroni noodles should be at the top of your party decorations list, followed by macaroni and cheese streamers and macaroni necklaces.
Pro Tip: Consider making several variations of mac and cheese to serve to your guests, or have each guest bring their own rendition of the meal to share with everyone. Don’t worry, it’s still acceptable to serve food other than mac and cheese for some variety.
4. Birth Year-Themed Party
Who doesn’t want to be reminded about how old they are? While this pool party theme may work best for those of us who aren’t under the age of 18, it can be a fun birthday theme for any age. For this theme, find decorations and props that fit the theme of whatever year the birthday person was born in. The decorations only get more elaborate and interesting the older the birthday person is, so this is no party to feel embarrassed about your age.
Pro Tip: Play music that was popular that year. If the birth year is late enough for bathing suit styles to have been different, encourage your guests to wear suits that fit the style of that time period.
5. Glow in the Dark Pool Party
This party theme may work best for a party that starts in the evening, but this can be a fun theme no matter what time of day you have your event. With this theme, incorporate any decorations that glow (neon and LED lights both work well if it’s not very dark outside). There are plenty of pool inflatables available that fit this criteria. Some guests may even choose to wear a glow-themed bathing suit.
Pro Tip: Buy glowing face paint to help each guest fit the theme. You can also supply glow sticks, necklaces, and bracelets to take the theme even further.
