Is it Time to Replace Your Swimming Pool Pump?

Swimming pools are a great source of relaxation, exercise, and entertainment for families and individuals alike. To keep your pool functioning properly, it’s essential to maintain its equipment and all of the pool supplies that go along with it, including the pool pump.

Your pool’s pump plays a crucial role in maintaining a clean and healthy swimming environment. It circulates water through the filter to remove dirt, debris, and other impurities. However, like any other equipment, pumps may need replacement after some time. Here are some signs that it may be time to replace your swimming pool’s pump.

How Old is Your Pool Pump?

In general, a pool pump will last between 8 and 12 years depending on the type, brand, and quality of maintenance that has been performed. If you know your pump is closing in on its expected life span, it may be a good idea to go ahead and get it replaced.

By replacing an old pump before it begins to fail, you can avoid any unexpected downtime that may come from a lengthy repair or replacement. Newer pumps are also likely to be more energy efficient, meaning you can save money in the long run by replacing that old pump sooner rather than later.

Is Your Pool Pump Energy Efficient?

Even if your pool pump is not quite at its life expectancy, it may be a good idea to consider replacing it if your current pump is not energy efficient. New technology is coming out constantly, improving the way we live and operate. Take advantage of new technology by replacing old equipment with new equipment.

While the initial investment may not appear appealing at the time, the money you will save on utility bills may help make up for the price difference in a short amount of time. This newer equipment may also function better, keeping your pool cleaner than it was before.

Is Your Pool Pump Performing Correctly?

A telling sign that is it time to replace your pool pump is that its functionality starts to decrease. While your pump may still be doing its job, it may begin to lose its effectiveness, leaving your pool a little dirtier than it normally would have been.

If you start to notice a change in the way your pool pump is operating, it may be a sign that you need to replace it. It may still be a good idea to have it checked by a service technician prior to replacing it, however.

Are These Weird Noises Coming From Your Pool Pump?

If you hear strange sounds coming from your pool pump when it’s running, it’s an indication that there may be an issue with the unit. A clogged filter or pump can cause the pump to vibrate excessively, producing a rumbling sound due to insufficient water being drawn in. Grinding or screeching sounds may indicate that the unit needs new bearings.

These sounds are typically out of character for a normally functioning pool pump, which could mean it’s time to invest in a replacement. Don’t ignore unusual noises, as addressing them quickly can save you money on larger repairs in the long run.
