Everything You Wanted to Know About Owning a Hot Tub (But Were Afraid to Ask)

Owning a hot tub seems wonderful, right? But let’s be honest. There is a lot to keep up with to care for an oasis of relaxation. If you’re looking for a hot tub for your home, maybe you are feeling a little overwhelmed with all of the information you are taking in. Bonnie & Clyde’s Pools and Spas is available to help with all of your hot tub questions. Here is everything you wanted to know about owning a hot tub (but were afraid to ask).

Pertinent Price Point Information to Peruse

There are many things that you need to figure out before you are ready to buy the hot tub of your dreams. First, you need to know how much a hot tub costs. Before you can budget for a hot tub, you need to understand all the factors that determine the price of the much-anticipated spa.

As you begin your search, you will see that hot tub cost fluctuates by brand. We just recently added incredible new brands to our hot tub selection for the fine people of Texas. With hot tubs from BeWell® Spas, Four Winds® Spas, and even InnovaSpa®, we have a variety of hot tubs for you to consider as you finalize your choice.

Check out the jets that a hot tub offers before you buy. Be sure to research the materials used in manufacturing as well. Our knowledgeable team members can help you find the hot tub with the features and the price point that you need.

Remember to also budget for the items that you will need for routine hot tub maintenance. And consider getting an energy-efficient hot tub that will make running the hot tub regularly an expense that the pocketbook won’t even notice.

Distinct Differences to Discover

Everything You Wanted to Know About Owning a Hot Tub (But Were Afraid to Ask)

Researching hot tubs is sure to reveal fun facts that you didn’t know before. For instance, what is the difference between a swim spa and a hot tub? You are quickly learning about the amazing perks a hot tub can offer — hydrotherapy and health benefits to name a couple. There is no wrong time to add a hot tub to your yard to accompany your amazing above ground pool. And there are other wonderful options to consider as well.

A swim spa has the term spa in its name because it does offer some of the same advantages that a spa or hot tub does. Many active families add a swim spa to their backyard to utilize the excellent aquatic exercise they can offer. And there is also a space to relax and enjoy the effects of the spa features of this machine as well. Our North Richland Hills location has a swim spa displayed for you to check out for yourself.

Temperature Talk to Tackle

As we continue our informative blog about everything you wanted to know about owning a hot tub (but were afraid to ask), let’s talk about the temperatures that a hot tub is designed to offer. Just how hot does a hot tub get? The brief answer to this question is that the temperature range for most hot tub heaters is between 90℉ and 104℉. Most spa models do not allow for a temperature higher than this to keep soakers as well as the spa itself safe.

One great part about having your own hot tub is that you get to customize the temperature to your liking. If you are cold natured, you might love using the maximum temperature year-round. Perhaps you are the opposite and tend to be hot natured. You can adjust the temperature according to the season – warmer in winter and cooler in summer. With the Texas summer heat, some people even shut the hot tub heater off completely for a refreshing round of hydrotherapy during the warmest days of the year.

Draining Details to Discuss

Everything You Wanted to Know About Owning a Hot Tub (But Were Afraid to Ask)

Next, let’s move to the important topic of draining the hot tub. We can’t count the number of times we have been asked the question: how do I drain my hot tub? There is definitely a science to hot tub maintenance. And the necessary care requires a recommended quarterly draining (every 3-4 months) for most types of hot tubs using a bromine or chlorine water treatment system.

There are a few supplies you will need to round up for the requisite draining, such as a hose and a submersible pump. The people of the Metroplex rely on Bonnie & Clyde’s Pools and Spas for much more than just premier pool supplies from Decatur and beyond. Our experienced employees can help you find all of the necessary equipment that a hot tub draining requires.

Once you have all of your supplies, you will be ready to begin the process of draining. Be certain that the hot tub is unplugged before you start and that the water has a safe place to drain as well. When you get all of the water out, then you are ready for the last item on our agenda — cleaning the hot tub.

Cleaning Course to Cover

Finally, we need to cover our quick cleaning course for how to clean a hot tub. The great thing about cleaning a hot tub is that you do not have to do it that often. As you perform the drain and fill every few months, the cleaning comes right in the middle of the process.

After the water is out of the tub, wipe down all of the surfaces with a soft rag. Be sure to clean the jets also because they are uncovered and easy to access. And take care of cleaning the filter as well, whether it just needs to be rinsed or needs to be replaced. Then you can refill the hot tub with water in preparation for more relaxing soaks.

Bonnie & Clyde’s has our own line of hot tub chemicals to help make your water care as simple as possible. We have all the hot tub supplies that you need for the ultimate relaxation you desire. Come see us anytime!
