Owning a hot tub is a dream come true! If you have recently added a spa to your backyard, there are probably several topics you are researching right now. Maybe the current question on your mind is this: just how do you clean a hot tub?
Bonnie & Clyde’s Pools and Spas is here to help you answer this important question. We’ve been in business for over 40 years here in the great state of Texas. People all over the Fort Worth Metroplex count on us for their pool and spa chemicals and questions. Let’s discuss how to keep your hot tub clean and clear for soaking.
Quality Chemicals Clean for You
First, you need to know that using quality chemicals is the first step to helping the hot tub stay fairly clean for extended periods of time. At Bonnie & Clyde’s Pools and Spas, we have our very own line of excellent spa chemicals. Our knowledgeable staff can talk to you about which sanitizing chemicals (such as chlorine or bromine) will work best for your particular hot tub.
As you do regular spa maintenance, you will not need to do much actual cleaning. Just be sure to keep the water chemistry balanced to ensure that all of the essential chemicals are doing their job. Keep the cover on anytime the spa is not in use to help the chemicals stay in the water where they need to be. And do routine checks of the filter as well.
Quarterly Cleanings Are Most Common
Next, remember that the hot tub water will not remain clean indefinitely. This means you will need to schedule a drain and fill for the spa once every three to four months, depending on how much use it gets in that period of time. In reality, you only thoroughly clean a hot tub a few times a year.
To prepare for cleaning, you can use a specialized cleaner to flush the lines. Then unplug the hot tub. This is for your safety as well as to protect the spa and its components. After the power is disconnected, you will want to get the hoses ready to drain the entire spa. Make sure that the water has a place to properly drain without damaging anything before starting the water releasing process.
When the spa is empty, use a soft rag to wipe down the interior of the hot tub. Check the jets for any buildup that needs to be cleaned out, too. Remove the filter, rinse it, or replace it as necessary. Once you have wiped down the interior and exterior of your spa, you can proceed with the “fill” part of the process. Then you will be ready to plug it back in to warm up for your reward for the cleaning — a relaxing soak.
