How Much Does a Hot Tub Weigh?

Thinking of getting a hot tub for your backyard? There are many things to consider before you finalize your selection. Maybe you are wondering about how the weight of the hot tub will affect where you can put it. Just how much does a hot tub weigh?

Bonnie & Clyde’s Pools and Spas can help you with the answer to this important question. Our company has been helping Texans with their pools and spas for more than 40 years. We have a lot of experience with backyard leisure. Let us help you prepare for a new hot tub’s arrival and placement as we explore factors that determine the weight of the spa.

Model Makes a Difference

First, remember that the model of hot tub you are getting will determine the weight, without any water or people inside. The average plug-n-play spa has a dry weight of around 360 pounds, ranging from about 245 to 475 pounds depending on their design. Other types of spas can climb into the 500-pound range or more when empty. The materials used to build a spa and the jets and features it contains all play a part in the weight of the empty hot tub.

At Bonnie & Clyde’s we carry various brands of hot tubs for you to consider. Our knowledgeable staff members can help you look at the specifications of the hot tub you are interested in. Then you will be able to determine which will work best for your yard and the setup you want.

Water Weight is Important

Next, you need to know the capacity of water that your hot tub can hold. For instance, the Fantom from InnovaSpa® will reach a total weight of 2900 pounds when it is filled. Their Spartan model taps out at only 2600 pounds when it’s ready for use. Again, each hot tub is different. There is definitely an option that will work for you, whether it’s going on a deck or a concrete slab.

Keep in mind that one gallon of water weighs right around 8.34 pounds. If you know that the hot tub you love can hold 275 gallons of water, the water weight itself will be just under 2,300 lbs. Then you add that to the empty weight to estimate the total weight before anyone enters the water.

Soakers Also Affect the Sum You Seek

Finally, remember that bodies will be entering your final equation for weight as well. The average adult weight is around 180 pounds. This means that a spa designed to hold 4 people needs to be capable of holding 720 pounds on top of the hot tub and water weight. All of these factors are important to remember as we answer the question, “How much does a hot tub weigh?”

Let our experienced employees help you crunch the numbers for the total weight your hot tub will have. Then you can easily determine the best model for the amount of people you will regularly have in your oasis of relaxation.
