Pool season has come to a close for many families, or it soon will. That means that pool winterizing season is on the horizon. This may leave you wondering, “Is it time to winterize my pool yet?” Bonnie & Clyde’s Pools and Spas is known as experts on above ground pools from Decatur to North Richland Hills. For more than four decades, we have been helping the people of the Fort Worth Metroplex with all of their pool and spa needs. Here are some ways to determine if it’s time to winterize your backyard centerpiece yet.
Watch the Weather
The first thing to help you decide if it’s time to winterize is the weather. We all know that Texas weather can be unpredictable. When the temperatures are consistently staying in the mid-60s or below, then you know that winterizing time has arrived.
If you wait too long to close down the pool, you might find yourself trying to take care of it when the weather is very cold. This is not ideal for many reasons. You will not be able to spend time thoroughly checking everything because you will not want to be outside for any length of time. Getting wet in the process can also add to your discomfort. And the pool and its equipment can be damaged if they are not cared for properly before freezing temperatures and conditions arrive, which is a big reason you want to watch the weather.
Preparing the pool for winter too early is also something to avoid. Algae is more likely to grow in warmer water that is covered and not regularly tended to.
Watch for Vacant Water
Next, the vacant water is a good indication that everyone has gotten their enjoyment out of the pool for the year. The lazy days of summer can only stick around so long before a normal school schedule resumes. Weekends fill up quickly too, and the pool can quickly be ignored.
If you and your family are not using your pool, keep it covered until you are ready to officially winterize. This will keep out leaves and other debris. Sometimes fall days stay warm for a few extra weeks. You want to be able to enjoy the beauty of fall without worrying about contaminating the vacant water.
