Ah, yes — it’s summertime. Sun, fun, family, and friends. Remember back when mom had lemonade set out and prepared some amazing barbecue for everyone? Neither do we. That’s why we’re here now: sharing these tips for the best summer BBQ at home.
The early bird gets the worm.
Get started early. You need half an hour after you eat before you jump in the pool, right? Well, old wives’ tales aside, you really should use that half-hour to fire up your barbecue before everyone arrives. This will ensure you have a great starting temperature when you’re ready to toss on the grubb.
Cleaning for all the boys and grills.
This will take up hardly any time, and it’s essential. Plus, if you don’t do it everyone will silently judge you. Just kidding! Well, kind of.
If you have any leftover briquettes, ashes, or debris in your grill from last time, take it out! Your temperature will be more consistent and you’ll have a better flavor.
The best summer BBQ at home isn’t something to just “take a stab at.”
It’s tempting to take your fork or another stabbing utensil to flip and handle your meats, but you’ll sacrifice some flavor and juiciness if they’re pierced. Instead, grab a pair of tongs — you’ll have more control and you’ll get to savor the flavor.
What’s cookin’, good lookin’?
You would think once you take something off the grill, it’s done, right? Well, that’s only partially true. Your food will continue to cook even when it’s plated. To overcome this, simply take your dish off just a touch earlier than when you think is optimal. You can always throw it back on if it’s not quite done.
Sit down and relax!
You just made a bunch of wonderful food. Great work! Just don’t forget to let everything sit for a few minutes; nothing will be too hot for your guests and everything will taste better. Grill masters call it “resting”. You can also use this time to prep for cleanup or you can lay out your side dishes if you haven’t already.
