Your Guide to Automatic Pool Cleaners

You’ve got your pool cleaning schedule down pat, with your telescoping pole, scrub brush, skimmer, and vacuum. But, what if there was a better way? An easier way? Automatic pool cleaners mean you can spend a lot more time enjoying your pool and less time checking off your to-do list. And, with three types to choose from, you’re guaranteed to find the perfect pool cleaner for your above-ground pool.

Robotic Cleaners

Who would have thought we would see so many little robots become such a big part of our everyday lives? We’ve got robots to clean our floors, dispense dog treats, and even clean our pools for us! A robotic cleaner is by far the easiest to use. Once you have it programmed, simply drop it in and let it do its thing! They don’t have to be connected to your pool’s pump or circulation system either. They work independently, trapping all debris inside their bag. For you, this means less backwashing, less water waste, and more efficient filtering. Easy to see why robotic cleaners are so popular with above-ground pool owners!

Side-Suction Cleaners

These handy little guys are super affordable and use your pool’s skimmer to roll itself around and clean up the dirt and debris for you. It then sends the particles through to your pool’s filtration system. By using the power of the water that is collected, it propels itself, cleaning your pool’s floor and even the walls. Be sure to do extra checks on your pool’s filter if you choose a side-suction cleaner since it may become fuller faster.

Pressure-Side Cleaners

For inground pools, pressure-side automatic pool cleaners are the most popular option. They hook to the return jets in your swimming pool and use water pressure to move about on wheels. These cleaners come with a filter bag, a sweep hose, and a return jet hose and do a great job collecting medium and larger debris. By using the pool’s pump, it pushes water through a hose to the jets under the cleaner, which loosens debris and pushes it up to the filter bag.
