First, you need to plan for periodic draining of your magical retreat. In fact, a hot tub that uses a traditional bromine or chlorine water treatment system needs to be drained once every three to four months. Be sure to schedule a drain and fill on your to-do list when the time is right.

Prepare for the Process of Draining

Next, you want to prepare the hot tub and its surroundings for the process of draining. Gather all of the equipment you will need to quickly and easily remove the water from the spa. You can use a hose connected to the drain spigot directly on your hot tub to remove the water. A submersible pump can also be a helpful tool. Proceed with the Pertinent Draining

Finally, you’re ready to get started with the pertinent draining of your hot tub. So just how do I drain my hot tub? Start by unplugging the spa or turning off the power source it uses. This will protect your hot tub and its components from getting damaged in the process of the cleaning. 

Connect a hose to the drain spigot. Just make sure the other end is sitting on a level surface or in a drain. Then open the valve on the spigot to release the water to its safe place. Or use a submersible pump with its outflow hose in a similar way. If there is some water that cannot reach the hoses for any reason, you can push it toward the interior drain when the majority of the water is out. 

Once the water is out, carefully wipe down all of the surfaces of the hot tub with a soft rag. This is the perfect time to check the filter also. And don’t forget to clean the jets off while they are easily accessible. Be cautious about using cleaners on the hot tub, because there are several that could damage the shell.
